A Publication for Members of the Disabled American Veterans Dept. of NY April 2006
by Sidney Siller Sr., PDC, Department Adjutant Every human endeavor is calibrated in so many ways, i.e. seconds; minutes; hours; days; weeks; months; years; decades; centuries; millenniums; anyway you get the point. But, here we are on the cusp of our 85th Anniversary; which we celebrate on the 21st day of May, 2006. It is a great time to appreciate the realization of the dream and concept of Judge Robert Marx, our founder and our first National Commander; and the exceptional leaders that we in the Disabled American Veterans have been fortunate to have during the mostly good and rarely difficult times. From Vivian "Crab" Corbly to, Denvil "Dale" Adams, to Art Wilson and staff we have seen over the years the growth of unity, strength, and focus rarely if ever seen in as large an organization as our DAV. The DAV is a microcosym of society from our World War II members to our Iraqi veterans, we have as diverse and ethnic a mix as could be imagined. From all parts of the U.S., and from every state and town our members are unified on the mission of the DAV. Because we care for every disabled American veteran, we have become the paradigm for a successful organization. Our success is based on our service work, where we lead the nation. There is no question that our creed is the hallmark of our achievements. Let us pray for goodwill at this season, when we celebrate our 85th Anniversary. Grant our leaders the health, and the ability to surmount the coming public lassitude and malaise that always rears it's ugly head in the Congress when it comes to our cause. So, in the very best of ways, the Department of New York aspires to share a Happy Anniversary with all of you on May 21, 2006 at the El Caribe!
