A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS OF THE DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS DEPARTMENT OF NEW YORK Volume 11, Number 7, August 2002, PAGE 2 of 5
The traumatic loss of leadership this year, with the losses of Ed Galian, Carmen Vitale, and Jesse Brown on the day following the adjournment of the 81 st National DAV Convention exacerbates our concerns for the future of our Department. The goals of our New York Department are to implement the missions of service to America's wartime disabled, their widows, and orphans, to fully accomplish this we must raise sufficient funds so as to provide the leadership of our great organization with ample funds with which to continue and fulfill the present agenda. So it is in this vein the Department is currently evaluating the process where we can start up a thrift store program that will be operated by the Department of New York. Other legitimate and high level programs are also under consideration. As A these programs develop and are approved, headquarters will keep you fully informed. The next issue is that of a Department Leadership Training Seminar, that every chapter will be asked to send at least one or more potential Department officers to attend. Leadership is the only virtue that cannot be purchased in a store or through a catalogue; but it is our aim to develop and nurture those comrades that have it. The outstanding contributions by Carmen, Ed, and Jesse have left us with great memories. Now we have to pursue our mission, close ranks and march on!!!
