A Publication for Members of the Disabled American Veterans Dept. of NY November-December 2004
by Sidney Siller, Sr., PDC, Department Adjutant Our beloved Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony J. Principi, along with Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and General Richard Myers, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, took part in the dedication ceremony for a new exhibit on the U.S. military at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History on November 10, 2004. "Over a span of 228 years, more than 48 million of our fellow countrymen and women proudly wore the uniforms of our Armed Forces, committing their service and fidelity to a cause much higher than self," Principi said. The exhibit entitled, "The Price of Freedom: Americans at War," is the most comprehensive overview of military conflicts in American history from the 1750's to the present. The exhibit is 18,000 square feet of more than 850 displays of artifacts from military conflicts, including 16 major conflicts and has interactive stations featuring first person narratives. "The memorabilia on display in this exhibition - the artifacts of war - as important as they are in framing our warriors' stories are ... a fascinating framework across which is stretched the board canvas of personal experiences," Principi said.
The "Price of Freedom: Americans at War" will be on permanent display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, 14th Street and Constitution Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20560. Admission is free and the exhibit is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We recommend that you visit this important project!
